A group claiming to be Kikuyu elders has vowed to ensure that eligible voters, especially in Mt Kenya region, turn up for voting on October 26.

The Kiama Kia Ma elders drawn from every region in the country said that they will even carry voters on their backs to polling stations to ensure that President Uhuru Kenyatta emerges the winner in the repeat polls.

Led by their National Chairman Kigoci Waimeri, the elders who converged in Ruiru said that they will use their resources to ensure that all voters who are either disabled or elderly are ferried to polling stations.

“We are angered by the recent political temperatures in the country that are geared towards disrupting peace. Thus could not be the case if the Supreme Court upheld Uhuru’s win. We will now ensure that his victory on the repeat elections will be undisputed. We’ll see to it that he garners 10 million votes,” Waimeri said.

The Chairman said that all elected leaders in the Mt Kenya region must consolidate their efforts and mount one campaign front to ensure that even those who failed to vote on August 8 turn up to vote on October 26.

“Our leaders should not be competing on who is conducting better campaigns. They should team up and conduct serious campaigns for the President,” he said.

Waimeri noted that the recent confrontations by politicians have seen the country’s economy dwindle at a very high rate adding that the one who’s suffering is the common mwananchi.

The elders however chided the opposition leaders saying that they are creating stalemates in the country so as to ignite violence.

“They are in fight with everyone, from the ruling party, the IEBC, Safaricom, Companies printing ballot papers and providing ICT services to the electoral commission just because they are aware they can’t win the elections,” Kiambu County Chairman Churu Muiruri said.

“They are now calling for countrywide demos knowing very well the repercussions of protests. People lose lives, others get injured and property is lost. They want bloodshed,” he added.

The opposition has called for mass protests in the country this week over the changes that Jubilee made to electoral laws meant to make it harder to successfully challenge a Presidential election.

Churu said that all leaders who have put the interest of the country and Kenyans at heart should be busy preaching peace and maintaining calm during  their political functions so as to avoiding slipping the country back to where it was after the 2007 general elections.

“Kenyans must reject being misled by selfish leaders who are only after satisfying their selfish political ends. We will not shed blood for certain self-centred individuals to rise to power,” Churu said.

The elders told IEBC to ensure that the repeat election is free and fair with no flaws saying that they should not put the country in a crisis again.

“And all leaders must respect IEBC because it is an independent constitutional body. No one should arm twist or threaten the commission or its officers,” said elder Njuguna Macharia.
