The elders, drawn from Molo, Kuresoi North and South constituencies have urged members of parliament to enact the bill after changing contentious clauses.

Through their chairman John Mwatha, the elders said some controversial clauses that undermine the bill of right, freedom of association and access to information should be rectified in order to attract public support.

Mwatha called on the president to move in speed and replace the inspector general of police, some weeks after the resignation of David Kimaiyo.

He urged Kenyans to support the government in providing security by reporting suspicious people to the police before they commit crime(s).

“We are facing a serious security threat from terror suspects who have successfully attacked various parts of the country. As elders, we call for speedy tightening of security during the festive season to avoid unnecessary loses of life and property,” added Mwatha.

The bill has raised heated debates from different quarters; both in government and the opposition, with many leaders claiming an amendment before the bill is passed.
