A section of elders in Garissa County have asked county governor Ali Korane to recognze their role in society.

The elders, speaking on Sunday during a peace meeting, said they handle crucial cases such as family and inter-clan disputes as well as inheritance.

One of the elders, Ali Duabt Amey said the county administration should fully recognize them.

"We are also involved in preaching peace in the county. Governor Korane's administration should not take us for granted. We demand recognition since we solve problems facing our people in society", said Amey.

According to Amey, if the county government recognizes them, their work and performance will be easy.

"I duties will be smooth if the county government values our roles in society. We are committed to carry out our responsibilities effectively", he noted.

The elders also urged governor Korane not to sideline people who didn't vote for him during the August 8 polls.

"Our governor should serve everyone without discrimination. He should put aside political differences to serve our people diligently," he added.
