Alarms have started sounding in Rift Valley after several Kalenjin elders warned an impending political disintegration in the region that could threaten the unity of the community.
The elders were speaking during Saturday's meeting in Nakuru where they urged politicians to put people's interest first before their political ambitions.
"It is unfortunate that the pillars of our community have been pulled down and that this is likely to worsen as we approach 2022," said the elders led by retired Major John Seii.
The view is that Deputy President William Ruto (Jubilee Party) is leading Nandis while Baringo Senator Gideon Moi (Kanu chairman) and Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto are leading the Kipsigis and Tugen communities respectively.
West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo (Kanu) has been seen as the leader of the Pokots.
Deputy president William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi have been on the spot in their quest to take over the kingship title for the Rift valley region.
A section of politicians from the region have repeatedly accused the DP of selfish ambition over Rift Valley supremacy while Gideon is seen as an unapproachable leader.
