The Mombasa County Council of Elders has warned governors allied to the opposition’s NASA Coalition against supporting civil disobedience called by their leader Raila Odinga.Addressing journalists in Mombasa on Tuesday, Council Chairman Mohammed Jahazi warned the move will slow down development in the 18 counties headed by NASA governors."The planned public disobedience called by Raila Odinga will derail development in counties under governors allied to NASA. This will, in turn, hurt residents who are entitled to receive services from their elected leaders," said Jahazi."Opposition governors should strike a balance between their party's push for civil disobedience and their mandate as governors," he added. This comes after Raila transformed NASA into a National Resistance Movement (NRM) calling for civil disobedience against the Jubilee government, which he has termed as 'dictatorial'."The resistance movement shall be responsible for implementing a rigorous positive political action programme that includes economic boycotts, peaceful processions, picketing and other legitimate protests. If there is no justice for the people, let there be no peace for the government," said Raila during a press conference on Tuesday in Nairobi.
