Nominated Member of Parliament Oburu Odinga has been cautioned against interfering with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) affairs in Nyanza region.
A section of elders from the Suba community accused ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s brother of meddling in the arrangements for the ODM party nominations, saying he is using Raila’s name to impose aspirants.
They claimed voter apathy would affect the former prime minister’s presidential bid in the forthcoming August general elections.
Reports indicate that Oburu prefers Suba lawmaker John Mbadi in the contest for Suba parliamentary seat and was planning to block Raila’s ex-chief of staff Caroli Omondi from vying for the seat.
“We need all Orange party MPs officials to give Suba constituents an opportunity to elect leaders of their choice. It does not matter whether it is Caroli or Mbadi who wins the ODM ticket; the most important thing is that we need neutrality in the nominations,” said one of the elders as quoted by the Standard.
“We want Oburu to go and campaign for Raila outside Nyanza region if he wants him to be president. What he is doing is tantamount to spoiling Raila’s support,” added another elder.
