Lagos Marathon champion Abraham Kiptum is the winner of 10,000m race men on the first day of the Fourth Athletic Kenya (AK) Eldoret meet at University of Eldoret grounds.

Kiptum, who exchanged the lead with Emmanuel Bor compatriot from Nandi County, crossed the finish line in 29:22.0 as Bor came second twelve seconds later before Rono completed the podium clocking 29:54.0.

Kiptum stormed into the lead on 18th lap after outsprinting Bor who had enjoyed the lead for two preceding laps. Kiptum says he came to this as his training because he has recovered after competing in Daegu marathon.

“I want to feature into the Chicago marathon God willing later in October. Before then I will be competing Lagos marathon.” Said Ziwa half marathon champion.

Former world cross country champion Agnes Tirop Jebet outsprinted to beat former world IAAF world 3,000m steeplechase champion Hyvin Kiyeng in women’s 1,500m heat two.

The duo were in a competitive heat two with Tirop, who is targeting Doha Diamond league coming first in4:17.4 ahead of Kiyeng who timed 4:17.9 and Meruem Akelang completing the podium in 4:19.9.

The fastest heat two, former world junior 3,000m steeplechase Caroline Tuigong won in 4:3.7 followed by Renny Chelagat (4:40.4) and Naomi Jelagat in 4:43.2 to qualify for Saturday’s final.
