A meeting by a group of church leaders and elders from Huruma ward to select one aspirant that will represent the Agikuyu community in the Jubilee party primaries on Tuesday, failed to kick off after supporters of the aspirants clashed.
Drama began when some of the aspirants expressed opposition to the process which they said was a plot by the current MCA Peter Chomba to have him endorsed as the only candidate from the Agikuyu community.
Led by Peter Kinuthia and Samuel Kimani, popularly referred to as Samkiz, the aspirants insisted that everybody should be allowed to participate in the April 21 nominations.
"This is a plot by the sitting MCA who wants to be endorsed for the seat after sensing that he would be defeated during the nominations and we will not allow this to go through," said Kimani who is seen as Chomba's main rival.
"Lets all be on the ballot during the nominations so that whoever has the people, will carry the day," he added.
Huruma MCA seat has attracted over 20 aspirants, nine of whom are from the Agikuyu community.
There has been fears that the community might divide its votes during the nominations and allow other candidate to win, a possibility that promted elders and church leaders and eldlers to push for a single candidate so as to increase their chances of clinching the Jubilee party ticket.
