Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Eldoret Diocese Bishop Dr Christopher Ruto has asked National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga to stop his persistent calls of being sworn as the people’s president.

Bishop Ruto said Raila should abandon his swearing-in plans ‘for the sake of peace and national cohesion’.

While presiding over a Christmas service at St Mathews ACK church in Eldoret, Bishop Ruto asked the opposition leader to dialogue with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"What he (Raila) is planning to do is unconstitutional. There can never be two presidents at the same time in one country," said Bishop Ruto.

"Instead of seeking to be sworn in, he should focus on holding talks with the President so that this country can remain united and move forward," he added.

Raila and his NASA brigade have maintained that the swearing-in plans are still on course.

Speaking during the first Coast region People’s Assembly meeting held in Kikambala, Kilifi County on December 17, Raila said no one will stop him from being sworn-in as president.

"I am going to carry the Bible. Nobody will stop me from carrying the Bible," said Raila as quoted by The Star.
