Cart pullers in Eldoret town have decried harassment from people posing as police officers and want the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner to intervene.

The cart pullers complain that they are being to part with money failure to which their pullers are impounded.

Amos Chigiti, a cart puller said that people posing as officers have been threatening to make their lives difficult if they fail to give money to them.

Chigiti alleged that he has been forced to give over Sh200 in the past one week by people he said are police officers.

“The Uasin Gishu county commissioner should intervene and ascertain the identity of these people,” he said.

The cart pullers have now threatened to hold demonstrations and paralyze business at Eldoret town if their grievances are not addressed.

The said that they have made their complaints to the area OCPD but no action or communication has been made.

“We are not going to sit back and watch our business go down, this the only way we survive,” said Junior Kamau, a cart puller.

Reacting to the allegations, area police boss Neslon Taliti said his office has not received such complaints.

He however said that investigations into the claims will be launched immediately.

Taliti urged the cart pullers to often demand identification cards before conducting any transactions especially those involving money.

The police boss warned that stern action will be taken against individuals posing as police officers.
