A Catholic cleric has scoffed at the planned merger of the Jubilee affiliate parties that will see individual parties dissolve to form a single outfit.
Eldoret diocese, Archbishop Cornelius Korir said the merger would infringe on Kenyans rights to associate freely with their preferred political parties.
He added the planned merger was undemocratic and uncalled for. "Kenyans should be allowed to exercise their democratic space by associating and joining political parties of their choice instead of being confined in one basket," he said during a forum in Eldoret. The merger which is slated for this month will see affiliate parties of the current Jubilee coalition fold up into one Jubilee Party of Kenya that president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto have said is aimed at containing ethnic based politics.
