Farmers from Moiben area in Uasin Gishu County on Monday protested over delayed payments.
The growers accused National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Eldoret depot for delaying their payments for the produce delivered.
"We delivered maize to Eldoret depot but we are yet to receive our payments. We want NCPB to release our money to enable us to buy farm inputs to plant again this season,” said Christopher Kiptum one of the farmers.
Kiptum said most farmers have not prepared their farms due to lack of funds to pay tractors.
“Ongoing rains call for planting but it is sad that most farms have not been prepared because the farmers have no money to pay tractors to dig the lands,” he added.
Dickson Kipchumba, another farmer claimed that the depot is full yet they have unsold maize stocks.
“We don’t want the stock in our stores to be spoilt by fungi. NCPB should sell the stock to millers to give room for new stocks,” he said.
NCPB has been purchasing a bag of maize from farmers at Sh3,200.
