Eldoret town hawkers have resolved to remain stiff-necked refusing to adhere to the directive by the county government to relocate to the newly designated market to run their business.
On Monday, the hawkers booed Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno as he tried to convince them to consider moving away from the streets of Eldoret.
Just after a few hours after the Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui lashed out at his Uasin Gishu counterpart Jackson Mandago, in what he termed as mistreatment to his people, the business community in the county’s headquarters-Eldoret is calling for Dialogue.
According to the area business community representative Steven Mugwira, a dialogue between Governor Mandago and business operators is fundamental in achieving a long-term solution to address the experienced stalemate between the hawkers and the county government security officials.
“It’s only through dialogue that hawkers can present their views to the county leadership and not an approach of introducing politics to the problem,” said Mugwira.
He urged the leaders and all leaders of the county to embrace each other and solve their issues without necessarily extending them to other neighboring counties for solutions.
Mugwira asked the county enforcement officers to stop using excessive force while exercising their duties and be considerate of human rights as they go about their duties.
