Advocates at the Eldoret High court on Monday staged a demonstration to protest what they said was lack of judges at the court.
Led by North Rift Law Society of Kenya (LSK) chairman Zephania Yego, the advocates lamented that despite the recent transfer of Judges from Eldoret, they have not been replaced.
This, the over 50 advocates said has led to a crisis at the court.
"It is sad that despite three judges being transferred from this station, there have been no replacements one month down the line, operations have now been paralyzed since no case can go on," Yego told journalists.
The LSK chairman said they have tried all avenues to solve the matter but it has borne no fruits. He noted that the advocates will continue with demonstrations until more judges are posted to the station.
"We want to tell the Chief Justice and the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) to stop ignoring Eldoret and give us more judges and magistrates since the current is not sufficient compared to the number of cases," he added.
The advocates further revealed that Eldoret High Court has a backlog of over 4,000 cases backdating to the 1990's.
They have further warned that should the JSC fail to post more judges to Eldoret, they will paralyze everything at the High Court.
