The High Court in Eldoret has ordered the county government of Uasin Gishu for the second time to halt relocation of hawkers from the CBD until the matter is heard and determined in court.
Hearing a contempt of court by the county government officials, Judge Millicent Odeny directed the county government to get hawkers back their confiscated belongings.
The county government argued that they had not received the first court directive on the same.
Hawkers’ representatives had moved to court to challenge their relocation from the CBD.
The county government of Uasin Gishu has been on an operation to rid hawkers from the CBD for the last 3 weeks. Hearing of the case has been set to be March 12, 2017.
