Police officers in Eldoret town are investigating an incident where a man allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a dam.
According to Eldoret East OCPD Richard Omanga, the man whose identity has been concealed jumped into the dam located on the outskirts of Eldoret town on Thursday under unclear circumstances.
"I was tipped off by residents of Kapsoya that there was a man who had jumped into the dam. On arrival at the scene with my officers, we found an Identity card and a jacket that was believed to belong to the deceased," Omanga told journalists on Thursday.
The police with the help of the Uasin Gishu county government fire brigade team managed to retrieve the body after an hour.
"We are going on with the investigations to know what exactly prompted the man to commit suicide," noted the OCPD who noted that the ID card and the jacket that was left behind would help them in the investigation.
Locals in the area said they had received information from the deceased wife the man was missing before it emerged that he had committed suicide.
It is not yet clear why the man decided to commit suicide.
"The wife had reported that her husband was missing and later on we were told that he had jumped into the dam," said one of the locals.
