Police in Eldoret town have arrested nine youths suspected to be among a group of criminals targeting MPesa agents.

The nine were arrested in a house at Action estate, few kilometres from town where they were found with several phones and sim-cards which police believe are used in stealing from the MPesa operators.

According to Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga, there has been increased cases of MPesa robberies, with operators complaining of loosing thousands of cash after sharing their secret PIN with the individuals who pose as Safaricom agents.

"Somebody had been conned Sh131,000 and that report was able to lead us to the arrest of these young men who were found in one room. We hope we will be able to get more people who have fallen victims to the same," said Mutunga, Wednesday.

"We are encouraging members of the public to give us more information on this mater so that we can swing to action," he added.

The OCPD further said police were pursuing the leader of the group who escaped.

"Once investigations are completed we will arraign the suspects in court," noted
