Police officers in Eldoret town are among those accused of illegally connecting water from the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas).
This was revealed following the crackdown on illegal water connections by the Eldowas officials at the Railways Police Station.
According to the Eldowas head of sales Timothy Bett, they found out that the police had illegally connected themselves to its water lines despite having been disconnected in May last year because of the unpaid bill.
"We were informed that even after we disconnected water here, these police officers reconnected themselves and have been using our water without paying," Bett told the press on Wednesday after the crackdown.
Bett said the Railway police station owe them Sh3.8 million for water supplied in the past.
"It is so unfortunate that police officers supposed to ensure law and order is adhered to are the ones breaking the very same laws by failing to follow the right procedures in water connection," noted the Eldowas head of sales.
Eldowas has been registering heavy losses due to illegal water connections among its customers as well as wastage that results from the bursting of its water pipes.
Since the beginning of this year, the company has been conducting regular operations targeting individuals involved in illegal water connections.
