Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town has procured a Linac and brachytherapy cancer equipments to help in managing the overwhelming number of patients seeking treatment in the facility.The supplementary cancer equipments which will be commissioned by the first quarter of this year will help both inpatient and outpatient people in the western part of the country."The unit can handle diagnostic and chemotherapy but the high charges are unaffordable to most patients," said MTRH CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa in Eldoret town on Monday.MTRH, the second largest referral hospital in the country has a unit of 500 cancer patient which is scarce and stretching the health facility's resources.Cancer treatment in the region is expensive making it unaffordable to most patients."Cancer is treated in six cycles with charges ranging between Sh5,000 and Sh10, 000 and we are working with insurance agencies to make it affordable to everyone," said Dr. Aruasa.Chemotherapy and radio therapy treatment will be offered in the Chandaria cancer and chronic disease center at the MTRH facility by the end of this year.
