The county government of Uasin Gishu has pledged to donate four Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town.Deputy governor Daniel Chemno says this has been occasioned by the fact the hospital which is the second biggest health facility in the country does not have sufficient beds at its ICU unit."It's sad that despite MTRH serving over 20 million patients it has has only 7 ICU beds," Chemno said while at the Hospital on Thursday."As a county government, we have decided to donate 4 ICU beds worth Sh40 million. This will at least help the facility effectively handle emergency cases in this county and the neighboring areas as well," he added.Chemno further challenged devolved units that enjoy emergency services at the MTRH to also chip in and donate more ICU beds."I want to call upon the ministry of health to at least donate 20 ICU beds to MTRH to enhance services at that unit," he added.MTRH receives patients from the North Rift regions, some parts of the former Western region as well as neighboring Uganda and South Sudan. To be the first to get updates on breaking and trending news in Kenya, send your WhatsApp number to 074094990.
