The National government has been urged to purchase more radiology machines at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town. This is to enable the second largest health facility in the country efficiently offer quality services to the ever increasing number of cancer patients in the North Rift region.According to chairman of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the MTRH Dr. Naftali Busakhala, there are only two radiology machines at the facility."It's sad that we only have 2 radiology machines in two public hospitals. This is very low since a radiology machine is only supposed to serve 200,000 people," said Dr. Busakhala during the World Cancer day celebrations in Eldoret town, Sunday."The government should act with speed and purchase those machines to prevent more deaths to occur since cancer is the 3rd cause of deaths in Kenya," he added.Dr. Busakhala however urged Kenyans to be going for cancer screening at least twice in a year noting that the disease can be treated if diagnosed at an early stage. He also advised for regular exercises and eating balanced diet as well as avoiding alcohol as a way of preventing cancer.
