The residents barricaded sections of streets while carrying banners showing support for Ruto. The residents claim that corruption allegations against Ruto over the Sh28 billion renovations of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTHR) are unfounded and meant to taint his image.

“We are against the corruption claims against Deputy President William Ruto, we know that some people are trying hard to taint his image,” said Kipkalia Korir, a resident. Korir accused Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga of wanting to fix Ruto in the scam. He said that as Eldoret people they will rally behind Ruto and fight opposition tactics allegedly meant to bring Ruto down.

Ibrahim Siget, a boda boda operator who joined the demonstrators downplayed the graft allegations Ruto, saying that the opposition is looking for a way to divide the President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy through scam scandals.

“Opposition leaders should stop this evil antics and sale their agenda to the people without tainting the image of other leaders,” he said. The residents said that they will support renovation and construction of a new referral hospital in Eldoret.
