A section of residents of Uasin Gishu have on Tuesday reacted to the scathing onslaught against Deputy President William Ruto by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Members of Parliament.
While addressing the media from Raila Odinga’s Capitol Hill office on Monday, Kwale Woman Representative Zulekha Hassan, Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Florence Mutua (Busia), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) and ANC Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi accused the DP of blackmailing the President and Raila Odinga and frustrating the building bridges initiatives struck by the two leaders a month ago that were meant to foster unity and reconciliation in the country.
However, the attack by the ODM MPs did not augur well with Uasin Gishu residents who told off the MPs and accused them of frustrating DP Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.
Kiptoo Aron, a shopkeeper, claimed that the onslaught by the leaders was an evident sign of cowardice as they are not equal to the task to compete with the self- proclaimed hustler.
"These people are attacking Ruto to intimidate him because they know very well that they cannot defeat him in the ballot. They should compete with him ideologically instead of unleashing an unwarranted war against him," said Kiptoo.
Joyline Kiprono, fruit vendor, dismissed the attack by the MPs and vowed to support the DP in 2022.
"Ruto is our preferred candidate in 2022. Any other leader who will run against him will be humiliated by a big margin of 70 percent," said Joyline.
Stanley Kamau, a driver, laughed off the accusations leveled against the Deputy President by the MPs and termed them frivolous.
"William Ruto is known for his campaign of preaching peace and peaceful - coexistence among the Kenyans. Claims by the leaders that William is an obstacle to the peace initiative are uncalled for," noted Kamau.
