The county government of Uasin Gishu will this month begin the process of reuniting with their families street children rescued from the Eldoret town.

County Director of Children Services Julius Yator says, currently the rescued children are undergoing vetting to ascertain the family backgrounds.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Yator said once the vetting process is complete children with families will be repatriated.

"We are still vetting those children that were rescued from the streets so that we know what their needs are and whether they have families they can be reunited with," Yator said.

"The exercise is expected to be complete by mid this month (January) and soon after the repatriation begins," he added.

The Uasin Gishu Children Services Director, however, said street children without families will remain at the Eldoret children rescue center where they will be taken care of.

Towards the end of last year, the county government of Uasin Gishu in collaboration with other state agencies conducted an operation aimed at removing street families from Eldoret town streets which saw over 100 children rescued.

However, 28 escaped from the rescue center.

"Since the operation, street children have drastically reduced in Eldoret town and we intend to go on with the exercise until all are either reunited with their families or moved to the rescue center," noted Yator.
