Traders in Eldoret town have asked elders to intervene and help to solve wrangles between hawkers and the Uasin Gishu county government.
The traders led by Joseph Wainaina on Wednesday said the prolonged stalemate between the hawkers and the county is bad for the economy of the county because daily earning have been negatively affected.
He said the ongoing crackdown on hawkers had taken tribal and political lines.
“Council of elders needs to intervene and solve the differences between the hawkers and the county because if the stalemate continues the economy of the county will not improve as expected,” Wainaina said.
He called on Governor Jackson Mandago to allow dialogue to end the stalemate.
"Governor Mandago should allow talks to take place for the sake of a peaceful business environment. Kicking hawkers out of CBD will have a negative impact especially in revenue collection,” he added.
This comes after last week, governor Mandago ordered hawkers operating within Eldoret CBD to move out.
