This is after it was confirmed that the multi-billion Eldoret bypass construction is set to begin soon.

Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago on Tuesday hosted a delegation of top officials from the African Development Bank (AfDB), the financiers of the project who visited the site for the bypass.

Speaking to the press after several visits, Mandago assured locals that the project is now set to be rolled out.

"Those who were still having doubts about this project, I want to let them know that it will begin soon as contractors are already on the ground," he said.

AfDB Executive Director Dr. Weggoro Nyamajeje who led the delegation further reaffirmed their commitment to fully funding the project to its completion.

Earlier Mandago had requested the AfDB boss to consider increasing for more funds to the project to ensure it is a dual carriage.

"We need to do things that will function. A single lane will be a waste of money. Let the road be dual carriage and it will solve this problem better," noted Mandago.

"Consider your prayers answered and we are no longer doing the things the way it used to be before independence," Dr. Weggoro responded to the request.

The Sh5.1 billion project aims at easing traffic congestion in Eldoret town as is expected to be completed within 30 months of its commencement.

The bypass has been designed to stretch from Cheplaskei centre at Mombasa - Malaba highway through the Kapseret trading center and end at Leseru, Maili Tisa.
