Operations at the Uchumi supermarket, Eldoret branch were paralysed on Tuesday after workers downed their tools demanding for two months salary arrears.

The over 40 workers also called for the resignation of the Supermarket's Chief Executive Julius Kipng'etich whom they said had failed the company.

Speaking to the press outside the Eldoret branch Uchumi supermarket, Kenya Union of Commercial Food and Allied Workers (KUCFAW) Eldoret branch secretary Josphat Oduor said the supermarket's management had failed to hold on to the agreement over payment of their salaries."We had agreed that they would pay us by May 30 and June 10 but they have not," said Mr. Oduor.

The workers also lamented that they have been blacklisted by their banks after delay in remittance of statutory deductions.

They vowed not to go back to work until their salary for May and June is paid in full.
