The county government of Uasin Gishu has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Eldoret into one of the cleanest towns in the county.County's Environment Executive Mary Njogu says they are determined to ensure locals live in a clean environment.Speaking during a cleanup exercise at the Eldoret West market and nearby residential estates on Sunday, Njogu said the county was targeting to plant more trees within the town as a way of conserving environment."We will not only conserve the environment through garbage collection. We will also plant trees during the April rainy season and distribute others to be planted all over the county in schools, institutions and water catchment areas," said the County Executive."Our aim is to follow in the footsteps of Kigali so that we become the cleanest town not only in Kenya but entire East Africa," she added.Health services County Executive Evelyn Rotich also participated in the cleanup exercise that was jointly conducted by the county government of Uasin Gishu and students from the University of Eldoret (UoE) as well as pupils from nearby primary schools."Environmental neatness goes hand in hand with our health. If we keep the environment clean, we will definitely have reduced chances of diseases in the society," Rotich said.
