Regular water rationing in Eldoret town and nearby residential estates may soon be a thing of the past. This is after the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas) said it had initiated several projects aimed at increasing water into the supply network.According to Eldowas Managing Director Eng. Jimmy Kemboi, they are currently working on expanding four water sources that will see Uasin Gishu become a water surplus county."Water rationing has been as a result of demand exceeding our production due to the rapid expansion of Eldoret town and exponential growth of the population of Uasin Gishu County," said Eng. Kemboi in Eldoret on Sunday."We are however working on four dams which once complete will inject additional water into the supply network from as early as the first quarter of 2018," he added. Its estimated that water demand within Eldoret town and its environment is estimated at over 50,000 cubic meters per day against the current Eldowas production of about 36,000 cubic meters per day. Most of the locals in Eldoret town, except for essential institutions like Hospitals get water between three to four days in a week due to the rationing.
