Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has called upon Mombasa residents to elect leaders based on their achievements and not the parties they support.
Addressing residents during a rally held at Kisauni, Omar said that gone are the days when leaders were elected because they support certain political parties.
He instead urged the residents to look at the achievements of each aspirant before casting their votes.
“When it comes to the interest of our people, parties count to nothing but personalities count for everything. People don’t eat political parties or movements,” said Omar.
He asked the residents to shun divisive ethnic politics and elect leaders with transformational agendas.
Omar gave an example of Makueni County, saying the residents there elected leaders who have attained quality education such as Prof Kivutha Kibwana.
He wondered why Mombasa residents were not emulating such counties, as the nation looks forward to attaining vision 2030.
The senator took the opportunity to endorsed Ali Mbogo, saying he is the best candidate to take development in Kisauni to the next level.
Omar said Mbogo has what it takes to trounce the incumbent and outspoken Rashid Bedzimba, who is a close ally of Governor Hassan Joho.
“If we want development then we should choose leaders who are development oriented. As the secretary general of Wiper Democratic Movement, I will choose Ali Mbogo as the MP,” Omar said.
