Borabu MP Ben Momanyi believes the county government of Nyamira can improve its social-economic status by residents electing more MCAs with a legal background.
The Wiper MP on Wednesday said the move will be necessary because they will be able to come up with concrete pieces of legislations that can help the government in tax collection and the fight against corruption.
He said most of the current MCAs were unable to interpret critical legislations that affect residents directly.
“I want to challenge Nyamira people to consider electing MCAs with some legal background. This is necessary because they will help in coming with pieces of legislations that can guide our tax collection among many things,” he said.
“Lawyers can also interpret some legislations and give due guidance to avoid coming up with rules that may impact negatively on people," he added.
"We need such kind of people in the assembly if at all we want to see a positive and visionary assembly,” he said.
He said the move will also prevent the executive from sneaking illegal bills that may impact negatively on the people of the county.
“I know with MCAs who are well knowledgeable on matters law, it’s hard for the executive to sneak irregular bills to the assembly that could be passed without their knowledge," he said.
"Also, fight against corruption will be a bit easy because we will see more court cases or petitions on county workers who are found culpable,” he added.
“A good number of the current MCAs cannot even legislate and are leading to the misusing of public funds by hiring services of lawyers at an expensive for a small issue that can be handled by an MCA who is a lawyer,” he said.
