Nyaribari Chache politician Rael Otundo has added her voice to the ongoing debate over postponing the implementation of the gender rule from August this year as stipulated in the constitution.
Speaking on Friday in Kisii, Otundo said the implementation should not be postponed and has an idea on how women can benefit from the gender rule.
“The only way we can ensure equality and working of the gender rule, is by giving the woman an opportunity to participate on the equal basis right from grassroots elections. Two constituencies for example Nyaribari Chache and Nyaribari Masaba should be joined so that a man and woman can be elected before they represent their respectful jurisdictions. The same should apply to wards,” she suggested.
According to the politician, she feels two constituencies and wards should be amalgamated so that joint campaigns and elections can be done for a man and a woman to be elected.
She says through this, a woman can have a chance of becoming a Member of Parliament in one constituency and a man takes the other and similarly for the wards.
The former parliamentary aspirant for the Nyaribari Chache election of 2013 via a Narc-Kenya ticket said that is the only way women can be empowered in terms of leadership.
