Speaking to women at Mwala town on Saturday, Maitha said that women are being left behind in terms of development.

The Chairlady accused elected women leaders in the area of failing to support women development programmes in the region.

“Elected women leaders must work together and support worthy programmes being undertaken to promote development,” said Maitha.

Maitha said that women are important and that their interests must be represented well by the elected leaders.

She urged women to be active and seek representation in development programmes taking place at the county government.

Maitha further urged women to seek leadership positions at the county government saying that leadership was not meant for men alone.

She said that women have the potential of making good leaders adding that time has come for the country to have a woman president.

The Chairlady asked Machakos County Assembly to initiate laws that sill support women empowerment programmes.
