National Assembly majority leader Hon Aden Duale has warned the parliamentary select committee against recommending any change in the 2017 polls date after its 30-day inquiry.

According to Duale, the date will remain as scheduled and nobody will ever challenge or recommend otherwise.

“We will never allow the extension of the election dates even by a single day or by one hour. We will oppose that. This is the position of Jubilee coalition right from the President to the grassroots representatives. The constitution should be followed to the letter and elections must be held either on August 7 or 8 next year,” he said.

The Garissa Township legislator made the statements on Monday while responding to Peter Munya and the chair of the Office of the Ombudsman Mr Otiende Amollo who had made their submissions to the House committee that the election date should be delayed to a later date.

However, Duale says that whether the current commissioners at IEBC remain in office or are replaced with a new team, the elections will be held as planned.

“Whether IEBC commissioners are removed or not, the 2017 election timetable will just remain the same as is provided for by the Kenyan constitution and relevant governing laws in the land,” he added.
