Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan says the negotiated election laws are good enough to drive the 2017 polls.
Omar said the law gives room for a backup system hence there is no need for a manual backup system.
"I don't see where the issues are. The law speaks of telecommunication network, it does not talk about a mobile network," he said.
"The law also talks about development of a dissenter recovery and operation continuity programme, and this is the backup. So the law on the elections is comprehensive," he added.
The Mombasa County governor hopeful hit out at those trying to amend the election laws saying it was negotiated and hence any reforms to be made required the same process.
"What should be done is to renegotiate the law rather than to revisit the law," said Omar during the Senate Legal Affairs Committee meeting on Tuesday last week.
"According to the law, it is so impossible to vote if you are not recolonised by the BVR and this will eliminate the ghost voters," he added.
The Senate has since passed the laws which are now awaiting presidential assent.
