The Election Observations Group (ELOG) has plaudit the conduct of the October 26 repeat presidential polls and observed improvements in conformity with the law and Supreme Court directive that nullified the August 8 presidential poll outcome.
The group in its report points out to uncertainties and hostility on an before the elections days as result of political interference with independent offices as to IEBC officials and the judiciary threatened the legitimacy of the election, which the group declined to comment on.
“We feel the environment was not conducive given the postponement in 25 constituencies due to hostility and insecurity meant that people were disenfranchised. The uncertainties as we were going into the elections did not provide an environment to hold credible and inclusive elections,” said ELOG chairperson Regina Opondo.
ELOG has called on dialogue urging leaders to consider discussing the issues that were now dividing the country on not only political but also economic and social issues.
The group recommends that a national dialogue is critical regardless of a likelihood of the election will be facing legal battles at the Supreme Court and obligated to keep watching the processes.
