Clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai has issued a notice directing the elections of chairperson and a vice chairpersons of four departmental committees whose positions fell vacant as a result of a resignation and a vote of no confidence last week.
The committee on Broadcasting and Library will meet on Tuesday (January 30) morning, to elect their chairperson after Embakasi North MP James Gakuya resigned.
On Thursday (February 1) morning, two committees; that of Labour and Social Welfare as well as the Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet to elect their chairperson and vice chairperson respectively.
On Friday morning the Agriculture committee will meet to elect their chairperson following a vote of no coincidence on Moiben MP Silas Tiren.
The move follows a meeting of the Liaison Committee chaired by Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi Monday morning that received reports from the four committees.
The report directed the clerk to organise the polls in accordance with Standing Orders 179 and 193 (1).
Tiren, David Bowen (of Marakwet), Alex Kosgey (of Emgwen) and Charlse Keter of Nandi Hills were chairpersons of the said committees before being ejected and de-whipped for disobeying their Jubilee Party.
They had declined to relinquish seats for regional balance, according to Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali.
