The region’s race shifted into top gear when Wiper Chairman David Musila told his boss Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka that he will be on the ballot box whether he likes or not.

On the other hand, former Lands Minister Charity Kaluki Ngilu is on the touchline ready to replace Incumbent Dr. Julius Malombe who has failed to score several goals since he was fielded by the electorate.

Predicting who will clinch the seat during the August polls is slightly tricky. Malombe has insisted that his people love him and they will not let him walk alone.

The governor has assured his supporters that he will retain his seat in the next general elections because of his impressive track record.

However, Malombe is not a peaceful man considering the power of his competitors. The outspoken governor will have to go an extra mile in order to retain the seat if Musila means what he has been saying.

On her part, Ngilu has been faulting Malombe for doing little to change the lives of the people of Kitui since he took over power.

She has lashed at the current leadership for failing the keep pre-election pledges. According to Ngilu, the county is endowed with various resources but residents are languishing in abject as Malombe is wining and dining with his family.

Her critics have, however, not spared her either. Many people have questioned what Ngilu has to offer yet she did not do much when she was serving in different capacities in the past regimes.
