Voting is currently ongoing in Kinondo ward, Msambweni Constituency, in Kwale County.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is conducting the by-elections following a successful election petition that saw an MCA who had been declared winner in the August 8, 2017 general elections nullified by the court.
On Wednesday, April 18, IEBC also confirmed that residents of Ruguru ward in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County, had come out to vote for their preferred candidates following death of their MCA.
"The Kinondo seat fell vacant from a petition while the Ruguru was occasioned by the death of the incumbent," IEBC said in an alert.
The by-elections come even as three IEBC commissioners - Vice chairperson Consolata Nkatha Bucha Maina, Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat resigned on Monday morning, citing lack of faith in Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
IEBC has since revealed that the security detail of its chairman and two remaining commissioners Bola Moyu and Abdi Ayub Guliye had been withdrawn.
IEBC Communications director Andrew Limo made the revelations on Tuesday.
