Despite the intrigues surrounding procurement of presidential ballot papers, President Uhuru Kenyatta maintains that the country will go for elections as planned.
A three judge bench last week ordered IEBC to cancel the tender that had been awarded to a Dubai based company and re-advertise it.
And on Wednesday, Uhuru said the country will not afford to postpone elections since it would result to a constitutional crisis.
“Let all political parties reach Wananchi and ask for their favour. We cannot afford to postpone elections given the expenses the commission has incurred this far.
“As political parties, let us focus in doing what we are obligated and avoid dragging the independent commission. We should have courtesy at times,” said Uhuru.
The opposition had moved to court to have the tender cancelled on grounds that the Dubai based company had special links with the country’s first family.
In his response to the Judiciary, an agitated Uhuru accused the law enforcement body of working in cohort with the opposition to derail elections.
