Ipsos Synovate’s recent poll indicates a neck to neck race between Uhuru Kenyatta and his closest rival Raila Odinga.
With 14 days to the General Election, only a large voter turnout in the two contestants will determine the winner in the first round.
The numbers however give President Kenyatta the lead with 47 per cent, while Odinga is close second with 43 per cent.
According to the lead researcher, Dr Tom Wolf, voter turnout could be key if any of the candidates was to win in the first round.
“The winner will come out in the first round of voting,” Dr Wolf said.
The poll further indicates that there is a large number of voters who are yet decided on where to cast their votes, which represents a five per cent of those interviewed.
Another Ipsos poll released in February indicated that Mr Kenyatta had 47 per cent support while Mr Odinga had 30 per cent.
The survey further indicates that if polls were held today, President Kenyatta would get more votes from his Central Kenya strongholds at 88 per cent, 10 per cent would vote for Mr Odinga while other presidential candidates would get nothing.
