Grief engulfed Mutarakwa village, Limuru as a 17 year old boy was laid to rest after a tragic death by electricity electrocution.

Daniel Njoroge, the son of Limuru Chief John Kimani was a student of Muranga High School, where he was about to join form four next year.

The deceased was heading home together with other teenage youth members of PCEA Kamandura Church after a hike at Tigoni in Limuru when he died.

Njoroge was walking home from Tigoni towards Limuru town in heavy rainwhen he accidentally slid on wet ground. He tried to get up by support himself on a faulty electric post when he was electrocuted.

Police reports said that eyewitnesses of the incident rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Limuru MP John Kiragu and his wife Wambuku Kiragu led the locals in mourning the death of the budding teenager.

“We mourn the loss of such a young and promising young man, and ask Kenya Power to ensure Limuru is safe by inspecting their connections even as they conduct awareness campaigns and inform the people on precautions to take in dealing with electricity,” said Kiragu.

Kiambu Deputy Speaker Antony Macharia assured the residents that the street lights that led to the death of the teenager was disconnected, and the county government had informed all the relevant departments to reinstall the system and ensure it was working well.
