The Cabinet has approved the establishment of the Africa Regional Centre for the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC-AFRC) in Nairobi, Kenya.
IEC is the world’s leading organisation that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
It is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation founded in 1906.
IEC prepares and publishes consensus-based international standards and manages conformity assessment systems for electrical and electronic products, systems and services (electrotechnology).
The IEC is one of three global sister organizations that develop international Standards.
The two are: International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
When appropriate, IEC cooperates with ISO and ITU to ensure that International Standards fit together seamlessly and complement each other.
President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired the Cabinet meeting on Friday at State House, Nairobi.
