Many argue that the girl child has been elevated far much above at the expense of the boy child.

But contrary to this, female leaders are still very few in our societies compared to their male counterparts.

This means that we still need to empower the girl child even more until the change is detected in our leadership system.

Upto now, girls in some communities are still being married off to older men instead of being taken to school.

Others are still forced to undergo the FGM ritual. Yet we have not heard any cases of the boy child being denied education and forced to marry.

The girl child is still therefore much below the boy child. While young girls are busy cooking for their old husbands, their brothers are busy in class acquiring knowledge.

How then can we say that the boy child has been neglected to an extent of poor performance in school? And how can we reach gender equity with the female gender still being viewed as the weaker sex?

Are they not the same people who find it difficult to secure jobs because the male bosses demand for sex favors in exchange of a job opportunity?

Aren't they the people who face ridicule if they show interest in politics?

The girl child has thus not been lifted to a point whereby we can say that it's too much for them and concentration should shift to the boy child.

While both genders are equally important in the society, they both need attention, but the girl child needs, even more, attention for gender equity to be realized in our society.
