Elgeyo Marakwet governor-elect Eng Alex Tolgos has directed the County Assumption of Power Committee to trim its budget for the swearing in ceremony to at least Sh3 million.
The committee had allocated Sh15 million for the exercise but the governor-elect said the budget was too high.
Addressing the press at the county headquarters in Iten town, Tolgos said the county had more pressing issues the money can be used on rather than being splashed on a one day event.
"I want to assure the people of Elgeyo Marakwet that we are cutting down the budget so that we only remain with the cash that will be able to cater for the essential needs for the day," said the governor-elect Thursday.
"We have told the committee in charge to ensure that budget doesn't exceed Sh3 million so that the over Sh10 million we will have saved can be used on development projects," he added.
Tolgos vied on a Jubilee ticket and floored Moses Changwony, an independent candidate. His swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held for August 21, 2017 at the St Patrick's High School, Iten.
