An Eldoret court has released the speaker of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly on a bond of Sh1 million and cash bail of Sh500,000.
Albert Kochei was arraigned in court on allegations that on diverse dates between August 2013 and March 2014 he willfully failed to comply with the law applicable procedures and guidelines relating to the management of funds and incurring of expenditure.
He was accused of failing to surrender imprest of Sh258,144.60 contrary to regulation 5,6,5 of the government financial regulation and procures concerning the management of imprest.
The Ethics and Corruption Commission (EACC) Eldoret regional office had recommended his prosecution.
His lawyer, James Njuguna requested to be given the witness statement within 7 days.
He had appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Obulutsa and is expected to appear on December 3, 2015 for the mention.
