Members of the public in Nyamache Sub-County have been asked to have the right perception of the purpose of the El~Nino funds by the county government.
Nyamache Sub-County Administrator Simeon Areri said most of the reports received in his office were too personal and indicate misconceptions of the public concerning use of the funds.
"Members of the public believe that the El~Nino funds are meant for compensation of the losses from the heavy rains across the region as indicated by their submitted complaints,'' said Areri from his Nyamache office.
He explained the funds are only to make the effects of the rains less severe on their occasion.
"The funds are meant for execution of correctional and precautionary measures to avert the dangers and side effects of El~Nino rains," he added.
The administrator revealed that several schools, churches and households have presented complaints over collapsed latrines, classes, churches and houses expecting compensation from the mitigation funds.
Citing an example of a youth group in Bassi Boitang'are Ward that reported destruction of bricks by the rains and sought compensation from the county administration he called upon the people to be realistic and cautionary not to watch and wait for compensation in flood and landslide-prone areas during heavy rains.
