There is no need for Jubilee to field a candidate in Embakasi East when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) calls for a by-election in the constituency, an MP has said.
Budalang'i MP Raphael Wanjala on Friday said majority of residents of the constituency are from the NASA coalition and Jubilee will thus lose again just as it did on August 8.
"Embakasi East constituency is for Babu Owino and a home for our NASA supporters. We will bounce back," the MP posted on his official Facebook page shortly after High Court nullified MP Babu Owino's win.
The IEBC is yet to set a date for the by-election that will set the stage for another high voltage campaign in the city as Babu fights to defend his seat.
The election was nullified following a petition filed by Jubilee candidate for the August poll Francis Mureithi on grounds that the election was not conducted in accordance with the Constitution.
Mureithi in his petition claimed that there were numerous irregularities during the vote counting process that affected the final outcome of the vote. He claimed the irregularities were enough to overturn the final result and give him an outright win against Babu.
