The Nairobi county government askaris have impounded at least 30 matatus and taxis belonging to saccos that allegedly presented fake bank receipts for their seasonal parking licenses.
Revealing the developments on Wednesday, the county’s head of parking services Tom Tinega said the vehicles affected with the impounding belonged to Embassava, Killeton, Trans-Safaris and Kilgoris saccos.
"We went to the bank and realised there was no money. They had presented fake banking slips. We had to clamp the vehicles until they pay," said Tinega.
The fake receipts alleged that Co-operative Bank had received payment for 500 psv vehicles, further lamenting that the county government loses at least Sh 20 million every month to counterfeit parking papers.
Tinega said that City Hall intends to sue the saccos for fraud.
