[Photo/Elvanis Ronoh].All hawkers who initially traded in Eldoret Central Business District have agreed to relocate to West Market.Uasin Gishu Director of licensing Silas Letting said this will help prevent the cat and mouse games between the hawkers and county askaris that have been the order of the day."We have successfully held a meeting with officials representing six sacco’s and agreed that hawkers will now be operating from the West Market," he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday."We also formed a transition committee to oversee the constitution of other sub-committees such as hygiene, space allocation, security and conflicts management. Hawking will be orderly since buyers will know where to get their items," he added. Letting reiterated that the committee will start working immediately to ensure hawkers who want to put up their businesses in the market get space. "Zoning in the West Market will also be done to ensure that it becomes a one-stop shop," he said.The County Government of Uasin Gishu has been insisting that hawkers selling second-hand items need to relocate to the West Market, their rightful space.Tabitha Mumbi one of the hawkers thanked the county government for this noble course."We have agreed to relocate and I want to urge governor Jackson Mandago not to relent on the directive to have all hawking business taken and kept at West Market," she said. "Let us not allow politics in our businesses," she added.
